Local antenatal instructor upheld as national success story
Helen Wheller launched local hypnobirthing training organisation, Birth Wight, in 2014. She has recently
been recognised by The Wise Hippo birthing programme, which she teaches, as a shining example of how
to 'hit the ground running', following her training to teach the programme in March of this year.
The island-bred hypnobirthing instructor has been used to form part of a recruitment campaign to attract
more instructors to train in the complete antenatal programme. Helen created a vlog (video log) of her
successes and examples of how she has set up her business and rolled it out effectively. The emphasis of
the campaign was having a job that is fulfilling, flexible, fun and rewarding.
Helen said: “I am very proud to have been asked to front this national campaign. I have been working very
hard since I undertook my training in the Spring and launched Birth Wight in May. I am a hypnobirthing
mum of two myself, and both of my children are still under 4 years of age, so every spare moment when
I'm not looking after them, I either teaching island parents-to-be, or working on my next marketing
initiative. It takes dedication, certainly, but the reward I get is to see my clients go from fearful of their
birth to actually looking forward to it and enjoying the birth of their babies; it is truly inspiring and
emotionally gratifying. That was why I created Birth Wight, the only hypnobirthing service on the island.”
Dany Griffiths, co-founder and director of The Wise Hippo Birthing Programme, which boasts over 150 UK and international instructors since its inception 18 months ago, said: “Helen has been very proactive in her approach to setting up an new business, one that is innovative for birthing mothers, but also for the Isle of Wight especially She has been making great waves in the birthing world on the island and is a great example of someone who has hit the ground running having completed her training only eight months ago! She has received wonderful feedback from her clients and a lot of respect from her Wise Hippo colleagues, due to her tenacity and dedication to achieving her goal to bring a new outlook towards birth, to the island.”
Birth Wight offer monthly group antenatal classes in Wootton and Freshwater. Helen also provides private and fast-track classes, as well as short-workshops and monthly coffee mornings and taster sessions.
