New Relax, Breathe and Birth workshop for expectant mums

On 11 July, Birth Wight will be hosting its first Relax, Breathe and Birth workshop at East Newport Children’s Centre, from 10am-noon.  Places are strictly limited and cost £25 per person.

The two hour workshop is a first for Birth Wight, and the island.  It acts as a standalone workshop for mums-to-be, to support their pregnancy and birth, or; provides a great introduction to the complete Wise Hippo Birthing Programme, also offered by the company.

Mums will learn more about the physiology of birth, how their body and mind can be trained to work together to create a calm and comfortable birth, to gain some insight into how others have used or worked with the techniques, and ultimately to support them as they seek a positive birth experience.  Film footage interviews will be shown, with both mums, who have had confident, comfortable births, and midwives who have witnessed birth as you rarely see portrayed in the media.

Helen Wheller of Birth Wight, said: “By offering this workshop from East Newport Children’s Centre, I hope to be able to reach more mums-to-be, to help them to better understand how their mind and body works during labour and birth, and enable them to access The Wise Hippo techniques.  By learning how to remain calm and relaxed during birth, mums can even achieve a pain-free birth; I did!

“I would like to thank Kathy at East Newport Children’s Centre for giving me the opportunity to offer this workshop from the centre, and for giving more mums the chance to experience these relaxation and positive birthing techniques.”

The workshop teaches a handful of skills that clients from the complete antenatal programme also learn, although the 10 hour programme cannot be delivered in its entirety during the two hour session.  Attendees from the Relax, Breathe and Birth workshop will be able to redeem their attendance against the complete programme should they wish to progress and learn more.  Attendees will also be given the opportunity to download, for the further cost of £10, a pre-recorded MP3 to support their subsequent practice at home in the lead up to their birth, which will help them to hone their skills and relaxation.

Further workshops will be arranged throughout the year.

Any mums-to-be interested in attending should book their place, as places are extremely limited, by emailing: contactus@birthwight.co.uk or calling Helen on 07793 544565.  The Birth Wight website, www.birthwight.co.uk and Facebook page, www.facebook.com/birthwight, contain further details and positive birth stories, showing expectant mums how birth can be!
